Periodontal disease is associated with several other diseases, according to research by the American Academy of Periodontology. Studies show that “inflammation may be responsible for the association” to other diseases.

So, what is periodontal disease? According to the American Dental Association (ADA), “It is an infection of the tissues that surround and support your teeth. It is one of the major causes of tooth loss in adults.”
