How Do Dental Implants Work?

September 17, 2020 0

Dental implants provide a permanent solution for missing teeth. In fact, they are the only dental restoration option that preserves the natural bone!

The process of getting dental implants involves an initial consultation where we will take a 3D CT scan and provide a bone assessment for compatibility with an implant. The dentist will walk you through your custom treatment plan and we will schedule your implant appointment.

Every implant begins with the surgical placement of a titanium root into the area where the tooth is missing. Titanium is a biocompatible material that encourages new bone growth and support. Once the surgical site has properly healed and new bone is formed, an abutment is placed onto the implant root. This abutment can support the final fixed prosthesis – either a porcelain crown or dental bridge that will create a permanent “new” tooth!

There are several advantages of dental implants. They include:

  • Prevent other teeth from being altered in the process
  • Stronger than natural teeth
  • Encourage new bone formation in the jaw
  • Correct bite problems experienced by missing teeth
  • Look and feel like natural teeth.
